Card and PIN

The secure element is the smart card the taxpayer receives from the Tax Administration. It holds the taxpayer's and the point of sale's data, and it signs every fiscal receipt. Without the card in the reader and without the PIN entered, the device issues no receipts.

Inserting the card

  1. Plug the reader into a USB port of the computer the device runs on.
  2. Insert the card into the reader, chip first.
  3. In the device window, under Bezbednosni element (Secure element), the card's UID, the reader name, the taxpayer and the point of sale appear.

If the window reads Nema kartice (No card), the device does not see the card. Check that the reader is plugged in and the card is fully inserted.

Entering the PIN

The PIN is the four-digit number you received with the card.

  1. In the device window, under PIN bezbednosnog elementa (Secure element PIN), type the PIN.
  2. Click Potvrdi PIN (Confirm PIN).
  3. When the PIN is correct, the window reads Spreman (Ready) and the device signs receipts.

The ESIR can also send the PIN over the network, if the till offers it.

The PIN is kept only in the device's working memory, never on disk. It is therefore entered again:

  • after every computer restart,
  • after an update or a restart of the device,
  • every time the card is taken out of the reader.

If another program on the computer briefly resets the reader, the device reopens the card by itself and carries on, without asking for the PIN again.

Wrong PIN

The card allows five wrong entries in a row. The fifth wrong entry blocks the card permanently. A correct PIN resets the count to five.

So that nobody on the local network can block the card, the device keeps the last two tries for the device window. After three wrong PINs sent over the network, the ESIR receives a message that the PIN can now be entered only on the computer the device runs on, in the OSFISKAL L-PFR window (code 6009).

Blocked card

A blocked card cannot be unblocked on the device. Until you receive a new secure element, the point of sale cannot issue fiscal receipts. A new element is requested from the Tax Administration, through its portal.

Card limit

The card counts the amount of signed receipts since the last audit and has its own limit. In the device window, the line Potpisano od poslednjeg iščitavanja (Signed since the last audit) shows the amount and the share of the limit. At 75 percent the line turns orange. When the limit is reached, the card signs no new receipts until a proof of audit arrives. The device normally takes care of this by itself, over the internet. See Audit.

Card certificate

The certificate on the card has an expiry date, shown in the line Sertifikat važi do (Certificate valid until). A month before it expires the line turns orange. A card with an expired certificate signs no receipts, so request a new element in time.

Replacing the card

  1. Take out the old card and insert the new one.
  2. Enter the new card's PIN.

The device fetches the tax rates for the new card by itself, over the internet. Until it has them, the window reads Nije konfigurisan (Not configured).

Data of the old card not yet delivered to the Tax Administration stays in the device's memory and is still sent, even without the old card in the reader.
